Volt in Holt are a photographic duo consisting of abstract photographers Paulina Nadia Weremczuk and Dominik Kuryga. They have exhibited in Poland, South Korea as well as the United Kingdom and recent exhibitions in Poland include solo features at Grudziński Palace in Poddebice and 21 Grams Gallery in Warsaw. Recent collective exhibitions include CICA Museum in Gimpo, South Korea, Museum of Romanticism in Opinogora, Poland, Boomer Gallery in London, and Ujazdowski Castle for Contemporary Art in Warsaw. They have been published by Kalejdoskop Magazine and have conducted interviews with LandEscape Contemporary Art Review and Projekt Pracownie.

Using Tesla coils, Volt in Holt capture jolting sparks of electricity on photographic paper revealing abstract compositions which resemble intense electrical interference, fantastical environments, and otherworldly suggestions. They describe their technique as a form of ‘painting’ with electricity. Like an intense abyss, these abstract planes of electrical impressions reveal organic structures which resemble celestial imaginative galaxies and alien environments as if imagined by great science fiction writers like Jules Verne in books such as Journey to the Center of the Earth and The Mysterious Island.

These works convey concepts such as the power of nature and manipulation of light. What makes these compositions come into being would be the electrical impression captured by the light of the photo-sensitive paper. Electricity in a raw form represents one of the most powerful aspects of nature and in such a physical configuration represents the traveling of light and energy through a space of distance. In essence, Volt in Holt are conceptually and literally harnessing nature into a representation of abstract forms which resemble celestial and fantastical environments and landscapes. These imaginative structures reveal planes of high contrast and organic substance free of rigid geometry and full of fluidity and a sense of linearity. The contour of the lines of the electromagnetic discharges represent a powerful force being directed to create dominant works of art.

Δ-5-6-513 (pictured above) remains one of Volt in Holt’s most imaginative scape-like formations of electricity. Like many of their works, they title the piece in a numerical manner to suggest scientific connotations with their approach and art. The work, containing electrical discharge in spherical formations, resembles images of far away galaxies being consumed by a black hole. Simultaneously, the spheres resemble moons and stars and give off a discharge reminiscent of celestial cloud formations.

Volt in Holt remain a promising artistic duo who use the power of experimentation through capturing the essence of electromagnetic form through a dynamic photographic process. They could be described as abstract photographers or metaphorical painters in their integrative and dynamic approach of capturing sustained electrical form. These powerful discharges from Tesla coils reveal a sense of raw power from the confines of nature and the laws of physics. The fascinating compositions reveal imaginative planes which can be contemplated and thought upon for hours at a time for each piece reflects a deep universe of complex textures and the brilliant manipulation of light through controlled electrical discharges.
